Penxo: A Minimalist Aluminum Pencil

Winner of the 2015 Red Dot Award in Product Design, Penxo is a precision-milled pencil. Cut from a single block of 6061-T651, aircraft-grade aluminum, the utensil is lightweight, strong, and flexible. The material also makes it long-lasting and easy to recycle, if needed.

A minimalist design, Penxo has no spinning knob indicator, springs, buttons, or mechanical parts. Rather, the drawing tool simply holds a 2mm lead in place via a clamp principle and shows the label information through a lead usage window. Additionally, the drawing tool releases fresh lead quickly, letting the user put pencil and paper with as little fuss as possible.

Ideal for an artist or designer, the graceful accessory comes in one’s choice of anodized black or silver. Each pen is to be manufactured by Strong Precision Machinery in Hong Kong and then inspected, assembled, and packaged in San Francisco. Available for crowdfunded pre-order via Kickstarter, the pen is currently available for $29 and is expected to ship in July.
