Photographic Works by Samuel Guigues

While we can claim without question to understand art, what happens when art questions our understanding? Samuel Guigues explores an imaginative world of possibilities through his photographs, which oftentimes depict curious situations that raise eyebrows and pique curiosity about the where, the when, and especially the why of the situation captured. In photo titled “Bear,” a polar bear strolls nonchalantly past a security camera in a completely white tunnel; in a black-and-white titled “Siamese”, two heads, each face carrying a puzzled expression, emerge from the same knit turtleneck sweater. Guigues’s knack for combining the humorous with a reasonable amount of absurdity make his photographs stand out among a crowd and force us to think just a little harder.
