British artist Jane Perkins re-envisions iconic art and public figures with a palette of found materials. Upcycling common trinkets, she finds a new life for thousands of buttons, beads, shells, costume pins, miniatures, doll accessories, leather tags, erasers, and game pieces. She refashions these household objects in the image of famous artwork such as “Girl with the Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer and contemporary idols such as Usain Bolt. Portraying famous art and people in an impressionistic sea of plastic, Perkin’s mosaics position ordinary junk at the heart of our cultural legacy.
