This fun, interactive piece from London-based Industrial Designer Oliver Staiano “[aims] to create new value between object and user” through an impressively focused production process. Molded from a magnetic rubber comprised of ferrous powder blended with silicone, the simple geometric lamp bodies conceal their incredible material complexity. Thanks to magnet encased with the moveable lighting source, the user is free to position it at will, whether it’s a playful reconfiguration of traditional structure or a functional adjustment to the direction of illumination. Each of these brilliant table lamps is made by a standalone machine that demonstrates Staiano’s adventurous exploration of material and form; seemingly infinite faces serve as either a surface for attachment or a point of reflection for the project’s unique glow. This spirit of whimsy defines Staiano’s innovative process that continues to push the boundaries of modern product design.
