Raft Sofa by Keiji Ashizawa

An elegant and minimalist sofa that emphasizes form and function.

Designed by Keiji Ashizawa for furniture brand Ariake, the Raft Sofa complements its understated style with a conveniently practical design. Elegant and simple, this sofa is an ideal example of Japanese minimalism. It features a frame made of oak and ash wood that provides support to the plush seat and backrest cushions. The clean lines and precise shape of the legs and frame beautifully complement the soft upholstery and its rounded forms. The designer pushed the natural materials to their maximum potential in order to create a beautiful as well as comfortable seating solution for modern interiors. At the same time, the Raft Sofa puts a focus on adaptability.

The design features an extended volume that complements the two-seater sofa. This volume can transform the sofa in two different ways. One option adds a third seating area with a cushioned seat, enhancing the sofa’s comfort further. The other version replaces the cushion with a wooden surface that acts as an integrated side table, for more convenience. Ariake offers the Raft Sofa in various colors, with both lighter and darker colors available. Introduced at the beginning of this year, during the Stockholm Design Week 2019, the Raft Sofa is available to order through the furniture brand’s official website. Photographs© Sebastian Stadler.
