If houses and furniture can bear sentimental value, then why not their constructs? Designer Sascha Akkermann embraces the history that can be visibly present on timber, after modification and rescue from their past lives. Produktwerft – “product shipyard” in translation – displaces the connotation of a shipyard as a wasteland of discards, and instead praises the unique odds and ends of such a collection. The series of wooden pieces that range from fur-topped stools to coffee table rounds all possess an individual look based on the wear on the wood’s natural grain and geometries of the found material. The spectrum of coloration is emphasized as slats are cobbled together in forming new surfaces and shelves, and ready to take on a couple more years of service.
