A Modern Resort In Langhe Monferrato, The Birth Place Of Piemonte Wine

A must-visit place in Italy.

While planning your trip to Italy, you can choose a destination at random and still end up in a stunning location. Yet some places should definitely get special status and appear on your must-visit list. Among them, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Langhe Monferrato and Roero regions. Spread across 10,000 hectares that include six areas and many municipalities, the landscape is the epitome of Italian beauty and charm. Think rolling hills, ancient castles and villages, medieval towers, winding rivers, as well as the highlight of any trip here: Piemonte wine.

Located close to the border of the Langhe Monferrato area, La Raia Resort offers the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself into Italian tradition and relax at the same time. The deamiciarchitetti studio restored an old abandoned building and transformed it into a modern hotel. Although the design celebrates vernacular architecture, it also provides a contemporary take on traditional dwellings. The restoration process included redefining the proportions of the building and giving the facades a subtler color tone to blend into the landscape, as well as creating new openings that maximize the views. The inner court became an abstract outer patio that surrounds the internal spaces.

Antique and modern elements combine in the refined décor. A skylight fills one space with natural light, framing the blue sky. Guests visiting the region or making a stop here on their Piemonte wine tour can choose between ten rooms and two apartments. They all feature custom furniture as well as their own color themes. Common spaces include lunch areas, a shop with farm products, a spa, and an outdoor pool that also reaches an indoor area. Outside, an aromatic herb garden in the form of a large leaf gives a creative accent to the resort’s otherwise understated design. Photographs© Alberto Strada.
