Rio Secreto In Mexico

Located just three miles south of the popular tourist city of Playa del Carmen in Mexico, Rio Secreto offers a different kind of family tour experience. This natural reserve can’t be found among ancient forests, but beneath the ground level. Seen by the Mayans as sacred portals to the Underworld, these series of caves along with the crystal blue underground river provide a captivating journey into the Earth’s past. Here, visitors can admire rock formations dating back millions of years, including stalactites and stalagmites, while they hike and swim along a one-kilometer long path. The striking geological features combine with the relaxing ambience of the river which flows through the quiet caves to immerse visitors into an unforgettable travel experience. At the end of the tour, families can enjoy the taste of genuine Mexican food thanks to the buffet of local dishes. The tour is organized by a 100% Mexican-owned company dedicated to promoting and preserving this natural wonder through sustainable and eco-friendly practices that always put nature first. A percentage of the revenue is also used to help conserve this natural reserve for future generations. Visit the Rio Secreto website to find out more about the tour and maybe even to book a holiday this summer. Images courtesy of Rio Secreto.
