Ristorante LaCucina by Archiplan Studio

Food is an important component of any culture, and this is especially true in the Italian home. The notion that food brings a community together is the root of inspiration for a rustic restaurant in Mantua, Italy. Ristorante LaCucina is a renovation project from Archiplan Studio, and deliberate decisions in the floor plan of the establishment create different environments for eating and enjoying food. Right upon entering the restaurant, the room to the left contains intimate tables for two while window-facing bar seats give individuals a view onto the street and personal space. A larger dining area, softly lit by background floodlights diffused by a thin white wall, contains a lengthy table and benches for a family-style meal. The high ceilings and open space allow the eye to wander and appreciate the white oak floors, exposed ceiling beams, and little knickknacks that line the shelves on an adjacent wall. Another private room completes the offerings of dining experiences. Almost all of the furniture is custom-designed for the space, and feature stark white tabletops that cap the light tans of oak veneer. The busy kitchen is hidden from sight, creating a quiet and blank canvas that awaits the laughter of family and friends, and the vivid colors of delicious Italian cooking. Photography Gianni Basso
