The Rugosa Furniture Collection

An elegantly minimalist furniture collection inspired by modernist design.

Designed and manufactured by Los Angeles-based studio and brand Kalon, Rugosa is a furniture collection that celebrates the aesthetic values of modernist design. At the same time, the range aims to offer a stylish solution to create a warm living room; one that provides a tranquil space for both the mind and the body. The collection’s name refers to a seaside house in Rhode Island that provided the source of inspiration for the designs. Rugosa is also the beach rose, a type of rose that grows in coastal areas and on sandy beaches. Minimal and timeless, the pieces of furniture feature clean lines and straight-forward forms as well as carefully chosen materials.

For this collection, Kalon only used four materials: sugar pine, glass, Belgian linen, and feathers. Rugosa comprises a sofa, armchair, coffee table, side table, bookshelf, and daybed. All of the pieces aim to create an inviting living space, a cozy home that encourages the inhabitants to relax and enjoy moments of reflection.

Manufactured in the US by master craftspeople, the furniture features broad planks of Western sugar pine wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. The timber features an organic, plant-based oil/wax finish that lets the textures and natural colors of wood shine. The tables boast bronzed glass tops, while the sofa, armchair, and daybed come with Belgian linen upholstery. Kalon offers the Rugosa line with three color options for the upholstery: Apricot, Egg, and Oatmeal. However, the brand can also produce the designs with the customer’s own material, by request. The coffee tables come in two versions, round or oval, while the side tables come with three different bases.
