Saint Martins Lofts above Foyle’s Bookstore in London

Converting a historical building into thirteen contemporary lofts, Darling Associates transformed the Saint Martins School of Art in Charing Cross Road, London, making homes above the new Foyles Bookshop, which was designed by Liftschutz Davidson Sandilands. The resulting apartments are artistic and bookish, encouraging the residents to display their decor and collect books in personal libraries. The open plan lofts are spacious and detailed with large windows and custom-made concrete, stone basins, steel elements. As a nod to the literary space below, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves are built into each flat. Furthermore, in honor of the building’s history as a school, the lobby features an art installation of work by notable alumni.
