Shattered Glass Animals by Marta Klonowska

View all 15 Photos

While glass is a material often used for its transparency and physical hardness, Polish artist Marta Klonowska introduces softness through density and coloration in her glass animal sculptures. Each composition is built from pieces of shattered glass, which create a hair-like effect. The technique modernizes creatures that appeared in works of Baroque and Romantic artists including Peter Paul Reubens and Francisco de Goya. An emerald rabbit bends over backward, its body covered in a mix of white and green “fur” while a white cat with a black-tipped paw and tail arches its back with feline splendor. A close-up of the works reveal unique pieces painstakingly arranged to give each furry friend a captivating character.
