The answer comes from emerging design group ensso – and it’s a firm “No.” Pen UNO is a modern update to the centuries-old writing utensil; made from aluminum with a Hi-Tec-C Coleto gel ink cartridge, the pen embodies our never-ending evolution towards greater precision and efficiency. Writing has never looked better. At just 5.33 mm wide, Pen UNO’s minimal form is more than just a pleasing aesthetic. The comfortable holding barrel acts as both a grip and a cap through a simple twisting motion, while the flat screw end makes it easy to change the cartridge when the ink gets low. Based in Los Angeles, the clever design team has taken advantage of the incredibly slim and inexpensive Hi-Tec-C Coleto gel ink cartridge – originally designed for multi-color pens and sold at most stationary stores – to create what they believe may be the most minimal pen yet. Space-grade aluminum construction (anodized in either space grey, silver, gold, or rose gold) makes Pen UNO a pleasure to write with and a pleasure to see. It’s now possible to preserve the art of handwriting in today’s design language.
