Solo House II By Office KGDVS

In the picturesque region of Matarraña, Spain, a plot of land measuring 100 acres contains both natural and architectural wonders. Bought by French developer Christian Bourdais, the site will house several structures under the name “Solo Houses”, all designed by a different architecture studio. The first house was completed in 2013 by Chilean duo Mauricio Pezo and Sofia Von Ellrichshausen. Here, we feature the second design of the ambitious project, Solo House II. Created by Brussels-based Office KGDVS, the holiday retreat blends avant-garde as well as eco-friendly design in living spaces that communicate with nature.

The circular shape and the privileged hilltop position provide a 360 degree view of the mountain landscape. The facades feature a combination of sliding glass and mesh metal panels, offering privacy or opening up the interior to the landscape, as needed. Nine columns provide support to the halo-shaped roof. Private rooms alternate with sections exposed to the elements, while the center contains a spacious garden. The holiday home houses a master bedroom, guest room and a natural carved pool. Inside, the décor includes designs by Richard Venlet and Muller Van Severen. The exterior also features a water tank painted by Pieter Vermeersch. Completely off-grid, Solo House II has photovoltaic panels, a generator and a water collection and filtration system. Simple yet refined as well as distinctive and serene, the dwelling celebrates both modern design and nature. Photographs © Bas Princen.
