Steel Crate Furniture by Naihan Li

As a designer in Beijing, China, Naihan Li often moves from one space to another. Her latest series of crate furniture simplifies the process of moving by housing wooden furnishings inside wheeled blocks of mirror-finish stainless steel. Although seemingly industrial, the pieces slide open to reveal a more romantic core in the form of a tea table, a writing desk, a bookshelf, a chair, a bar, an entertainment center, and a kitchenette, all crafted from black walnut. Ideal for small, transient spaces, the designs embody both practicality and glamour. Li produced the portable furniture in limited edition runs of twelve or fewer, but the greater public still has a chance to see the work in person. Starting May 3rd, the collection will show at gallery ALL in LA.
