Following his graduation from H.I.T (Holon Institute of Technology) Israeli designer Shir Atar began exploring his intrigue of relations between industrial production & technology and hand craftsmanship & materials. Working alongside industrial manufacturers offers the opportunity to observe processes and work methods of both people and machinery. Reviewing existing conditions; rethinking the outcome – and recreating new objects that combine both worlds – industrial and personal.
The compound material of synthetic resin and natural dry branches used for the “Stick Vases” behaves much like a Modern Fossil. The new body of material hides the natural flow of the branches, suspended in time, wrapped by the cast resin. After casting, the composite body is ready for the milling process that will ‘excavate’ and reveal the unique, individual, one of a kind pattern in each vase.
