Fabrication does not need to be wasteful, and Dutch designer Floris Wubben demonstrates the concept of resourcefulness through the Stripped Branch Lamp. The lamp is built from a single branch and with careful planning, of course. The bark from the branch is stripped off – kind of in the way an apple is peeled – and wrapped in a downward spiral to form a semi-opaque lampshade. The stand of the lamp is created by splitting the other end of the branch into three sections, which effectively forms a tripod base. The look is entirely natural, and the small imperfections in the bark of the branch make the piece unique and tactilely interesting. The simplicity of the lamp and unadulterated treatment of the original branch drives home the notion of natural magnificence and plentitude.
