Prominent in the north-facing view from the forested hill over the nature terrain in Wenzenbach, Germany, Studio House’s gabled silhouette appears to be a one-story house. Yet, the black volume sits cantilevered upon a white podium, their respective angles conforming to the jog in the site boundary. Designed by Fabi Architekten BDA, Studio House accommodates a work and personal life, separated by the two elevations that share the geometry of the stairs. Above, a one-room space for working, dining, and socializing embraces the majestic view, while a quieter and more private area for rest and meditation is housed in the lower portion. In both programs, the wooden interior and simple furniture warm the body as well as the soul.
