Sustainable Bike Machines by Maya Pedal

Maya Pedal, a Guatemalan NGO, offers many services and products to the community of San Andrés Itzapa, including Bicimaquinas, pedal-powered machines for use in homes and small businesses. The bike machines work like regular stationary bikes, but they come with special attachments such as water pumps and blenders that relieve the need for both electrical tools and manual labor. Reusing bicycles donated from the USA and Canada, staff and volunteers transform unwanted bikes into functional tools. The technology saves energy, money, and hassle, as the finished objects forego electricity and are easily maintained. The users also get all of the health benefits of riding a bike while going about their workdays. See the bike machines in action in this Spanish-language video on Youtube.
