Architecture in Belgium highlights the creativity of talented architects and designers who often take inspiration from Flemish design to create their masterpieces. As varied as the country’s charming landscapes, these projects include everything from family homes to artist studios and private retreats in nature. Ultra-minimalist, classic, brutalist, or industrial, these houses and apartments are as different as they are inspiring.

Among them, a house that offers an imaginative take on the classic lines of Flemish architecture while also standing out with a boldly creative design. In this case, the architects created an asymmetric home that defies the site’s busy neighborhood to capture its own views of the surrounding hills. Triangular glazed elements cut into the volume overlook woodland, green fields, and a country lane. Elsewhere, a Belgian architecture firm designed an extension for a 1950s house that also has an addition from the 2000s. This latest volume creates a bridge between three eras while also becoming a landmark with its tower-like presence.

Not all of the architecture in Belgium projects are houses, however. Here, you can also discover the contemporary, industrial style of a brutalist apartment with rough concrete surfaces and vibrant accents. Another project created a sculptural, Corten steel clad guesthouse in a private garden. An artist studio also keeps traditional and vernacular elements in perfect balance. Completed with an exposed brick exterior, this building takes inspiration from the surrounding industrial urban landscape. Finally, from city dwellings to lakeside properties and woodland retreats, these projects focus on creating a strong dialogue between living spaces and their surroundings.
