The Dome Of Visions

Back in 2013, architects Kristoffer Tejlgaard and Benny Jepsen collaborated on the Dome of Visions temporary buildings, one located in Aarhus, Denmark and the other built in Stockholm, Sweden. The structures followed on the footsteps of the architects’ previous collaborative project, the People’s Meeting Dome, but featured a simplified design. To mark Aarhus receiving the European Capital of Culture distinction in 2017, Tejlgaard created an improved and larger version of the dome which will act as a pavilion for cultural events and conferences.

The new Dome of Visions measures 10.5 meters in height, with a cross section creating a 450 square meter room. The grid features sustainable Kerto® LVL beams from Metsä Wood which measure 21 mm and have a slim, elegant profile. As a result, the structure has a minimal amount of steel, reducing the overall cost of the building. Apart from being a sustainable and completely green material, the use of 100 cubic meters of wood also has another environmentally friendly effect. “This will save the atmosphere from 100 tons of CO2 compared to a similar building in concrete that would emit about 20 tons of CO2,” says Kristoffer Tejlgaard.
