The Hauteville Concrete Rocking Chair

Concrete doesn’t usually bring the word “comfort” to mind, but the Hauteville Rocking Chair defies convention with its creative use of materials, bringing sophistication to modern living spaces at the same time. Created by Henri Lavallard Boget for Lyon Beton, the chair blends mid-century inspiration and contemporary design with the relaxed feeling provided by a traditional rocking chair. A modern take on the iconic shell design of the 1950s, the chair features an ergonomic shape for more comfort and a concrete material sanded to perfection, to offer an ultra-smooth surface. The runners are made of plywood in a light shade, contrasted by the onyx black tone of the rebar legs; both complement the gray concrete and enhance the distinct contemporary tone of the design. The minimalist appearance makes this piece of accent furniture an ideal addition to almost any decor, as it will complement both modern and refined or cool and industrial interiors. Striking as it may be, the Hauteville Rocking Chair is not the first piece of concrete seating made by the designer. It’s a part of a larger collection that includes armchairs and bar stools, helping to transform various areas of the home and becoming focal points or conversation starters in the process.
