The Helgray Hornet Watch

Inspired by the past but made to withstand the fast-paced lifestyle of the modern man, the Helgray watches provide vintage style and functionality blended with ruggedness and a touch of unconventionality. But among the designs produced by the company, none embody these features quite like the new Helgray Hornet Watch.

Coming after a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign which saw the initial goal of $20,000 reach over $145,000, the watch illustrates the need for something different. In terms of concept, it takes its name from both the MD F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet launched in the 1980s and the most dangerous type of wasp, while in terms of design it pays homage to Top Gun and pilot watches. The case is made of solid stainless steel that is also used as an aerospace structural alloy, providing an oxidation and corrosion-resistant material. The double-domed sapphire crystal is tough and scratch-resistant, but it also offers superior clarity and no distortion, regardless of the viewing angle. Inside, an accurate Japanese Miyota 1L45 quartz movement makes the watch virtually maintenance-free. Hornet is designed to be water resistant up to 10 atmospheres, or 100 meters, so it’s perfect for swimming and even light diving. The face features clean lines and two styles of hands, designed to provide perfect readability. An innovative feature is the addition of an inner 12-hour bezel, which can be set to a second time zone by rotating the red crown, placed at the 2 hour mark.
