Appropriate for its purpose as an obstetrician’s office, The Invitation features a design that, while modestly welcoming, also preserves a sense of seriousness and privacy. Located in Utrecht, the Netherlands, the office designed by Van Rooijen Architects has a façade that is fractured down the middle by glazing and a skylight. This transparent split revealing the building’s interior is formally an extension of service, and functionally brings natural light into the space. Within, a spiral staircase leads to a second-story bridge that overlooks the airy office. As if emphasizing its friendliness, the building also has an outdoor terrace and another bridge that serves as a connection of site over a surrounding body of water.
