The Naked House by Marc Gerritsen

For photographer and designer Marc Gerritsen, making his dream home a reality turned his three-story plan turned into a five-story villa. The finished house is built into the hillside of Koh Samui, Thailand. Described by Gerritsen as “luxury monastic,” the spacious home makes use of simple materials—concrete, wood, steel and glass—in order to return to life’s simple wonders, from sunlight and fresh air to quietude and openness. The stunning living room really embodies these values. With an open plan, a pool, and a deck, the space allows for seamless indoor-outdoor relaxation. In addition to the living room, the affectionately named “Naked House” boasts two bedrooms, a maid’s room, an office, a pantry, a laundry room, a tan and plant room, a steam room, and an open-air bathroom. Throughout the house, glass doors and windows slide open, welcoming the sun, breeze, and ocean view.
