The Smart Ped Kicks the Dust off a Childhood Novelty

Most of us can remember the joys and limits to the kick bike we owned as a child; getting us around the block slightly faster than walking would’ve taken through an inordinate amount of kicks, but still safer than a skateboard (and requiring less much less balance). It was essentially a suburban compromise that our mothers could approve of, but always felt like it had more potential than we gave it. Now, the designers at Flykly have reached that potential with the Smart Ped; an eclectically assisted system that extends your ride drastically. Its e-kick design allows one to travel a range of 30-50 km (18-30 miles), with top speeds of 25 km/h (16mph), making it an efficient option for the daily commuter. Made in Milan, it turns a childhood novelty into a practical way to traverse an urban landscape. And thanks to its lightweight and foldable design, weighing only 11 kg (24 lbs.), and folding down to a size of around 62 cm by 78 cm (24” by 30”), the Smart Ped can join you wherever you need to go. The bike features an all-in-one motor, battery and electronics within its rear wheel, integrating the Smart Wheel concept Flykly has already found great success in into this new piece of technology. The Smart Wheel allows you to lock the Smart Ped with the touch of a dedicated app, and the app also connects you to a community of riders to help determine smarter and safer routes for your commute. Best of all, the Smart Ped is an open source design, leaving owners free to upgrade and tweak it as they wish, and access all the new features others have developed in the community. The Smart Ped is a perfect solution for any urbanite wishing to kick off the nostalgic dust of their youth and ride to work in style.
