Found in Vancouver, Canada, the Tolmie Residence is an urban beach house by architects Batters by Howat. The private home draws inspiration from the practical leanings of post-war architecture. Inside and out, the structure blends wood, concrete, and steel, altogether a polished complement to the cool colors of the decor and natural surroundings. Skylights and large windows fill the space with sunlight, while a landscaped wall allows the property to hold onto some privacy. Meeting contemporary and traditional architecture, the Tolmie Residence allows for full view of the ocean without exposing the homeowners’ personal lives.
