The World’s Largest Indoor Bike Park: Louisville Mega Cavern

Not far from where I grew up, the Louisville Mega Cavern is found in Kentucky’s largest city, 100 feet below landmarks such as the main highway and the zoo. Mined for rock in the previous century, the 100-acre limestone cave is now classified as a building, the largest in the state. Inside of today’s Mega Cavern, visitors will find zip line and tram tours, a ropes course, an event space, and the Mega Underground Bike Park.

The latter is the world’s only underground bike park and the largest indoor attraction of its kind at 320,000 square feet. Boasting more than 45 trails of dirt and special challenges such as wooden ramps, the park offers unique cycling experiences for riders of all levels. Whether you’re a seasoned off-road thrill-seeker or a curious amateur, the cave promises to deliver a hell of an adventure.

Open all-year, the space is cool but not cold at 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit and protected against the elements by it natural limestone and artificial fiber rock walls. The Mega Underground Bike Park just opened this month. Right now, the venue is BYO-bike, but rentals will soon be available in April.
