Tom Sachs X NikeCraft Mars Yard Sneakers

Back in 2012, Tom Sachs created the Nike Mars Yard sneaker as part of a New York exhibition with various space-related items. The footwear took inspiration from actual astronaut overshoes and featured the same airbag material used in the Mars Exploration Rover missions. Now, the contemporary artist revisits the design. To the delight of design and sneaker fans everywhere. The 2017 NikeCraft Mars Yard Sneaker boasts a polyester mesh fabric which wicks away moisture and enhances breathability. The upper also features natural suede and the iconic swoosh in contrasting dark red. The tongue stands out with its creative design that shows the foam interior. A soft fabric on the interior, a cork sole as well as an updated outsole complete the design.

Although clearly a sought-after collector’s item, the Tom Sachs X NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0 are meant to be worn. Over and over, until they become worn. Creatively launched in an immersive Space Camp experience in NYC, the sneaker made its debut in true Tom Sachs fashion. After completing an hour-long course – based on the artist’s personal workout routine – the participants gained access to the sneakers before the rest of the world.
