Transfer by Kevin Corrado

Photographer Kevin Corrado’s Transfer is a series inspired by the idea of representing a body of water as a bucket of paint. Driven by that initial image, Corrado began to think about how people paint water as blue even when it is often clear, gray, green, or brown in our daily lives. Exploring the connection between landscape, color, and the artist’s hand in translating nature into art, Corrado created three modified photographs that depict a man’s hand dipped in paint and laid over a seemingly natural background. Touching on water, land, and sky, Corrado’s work emphasizes the artful choices he makes, even as a photographer instead of a painter, affirming that oceans are blue, trees are green, and clouds are white by taking pictures that reify those associations as natural truths.
