While their footprints on their shared site in Oberweningen, Switzerland are strikingly similar, the volumes composing the Two Single-Occupancy Detached Houses are notably different in form. L3P Architekten explores the subtle conversation between two independent buildings through details and material elements, as opposed to a more conventional physical connection. Both structures are surrounded by a winding walkway, which reveals a small reflecting pool shared by the two houses. The façades of both are of exposed concrete and tinted glass, a perfect balance of heavy and light. Geometric offsets and a wide variety of angles and facets that are found in the plastered interiors fortify an unspoken relation between the two, aligning their experiential contributions despite volumetric differences.
