Colette is hosting an event to celebrate the opening of U.T.O.P.I.A – a collaborative exhibit of the Parlá brothers’ work – on September 3rd, from 6 to 8 pm. The Brooklyn-based brothers have each developed their own distinctive forms of expression, but their artistic dialogue is evident in both bodies of work. José Parlá’s drawings, paintings, and installations recall an urban palimpsest, composed of layered fragments of textures and colors. Rey Parlá’s work features a restrained color palette and use of formal elements. His work ranges from Scratch Graphs – playful arrangements of color and lines – to digitally generated Ultra Electrics. Both brothers’ work involves the making of objects that are at times sculpture, at times installation. Their work has been shown in galleries in New York, Miami, and Paris.
