Ville Rieteiland-Oost by Egeon Architecten

Ville Rieteiland-Oost has a show-stopping façade that is beautifully textured, but don’t let its detailed timber construction overshadow the high-tech design that Egeon Architecten implemented to make the residence energy-efficient. The home, located in Amsterdam, is clad in striations of wood that highlight the carved voids in the well-insulated volume, which form a third-floor balcony and wrap around an external spiral staircase. Special heat-resistant glazing on the first and third floors gives the building a floating feeling, also highlighted by the simple interiors save for a curious set of wooden stairs with treads that twist from vertical ascent to horizontal.
