Here’s a behind the scene view with Henrique Oliveira while working on his biggest installation yet, in his hometown in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Inspired by the city’s environment, old walls, and many surfaces, Henrique creates large scale tunnels of what he refers to as “tumors”. These sprawling “tumors” are made out of used plywood, a common material found around Sao Paulo, which is used to fence/isolate construction sites. Fascinated by the broken pieces of used plywood, its layers, veins, and movement, Henrique Oliveira is reusing it to create this living experience of sounds, smells, and textures, as one walks through these “tumors”. “I was making this connection between the way society treat the favelas, the shantytowns, and the way they see this as kind of tumors”, he says.
