Wooden Lighting Inspired By The 1969 Lunar Mission

Distinctive and creative, the sculptural Eagle Collection pays homage to an iconic moment in history while also providing a fresh, artistic take on modern lighting design. Created and made by Woodlabo, a design studio founded in Finland in 2010 and now based in France, the five wooden pendant lights take inspiration from the shape of the Eagle lunar module that landed on the Moon in 1969. The team reproduced parts of the fuselage and reworked the shapes to recreate the mission’s various stages using birch plywood panels spaced a few millimeters apart. Thus, the light escapes through the narrow spaces, accentuating the outlines of the separate elements and enhancing the solidity of the material.

Lightweight and stable, the Eagle, Orbit, Moon, Landing, and Lift-Off lights also feature an aluminum interior which houses the LEDs. To mark the launch of the range, the studio recreated the mission in a personal way, by posing the pendants in the preserved archipelago of Turku in Finland, the birthplace of the studio. The photographs capture the out-of-this-world beauty of the designs in a gorgeous and wild setting, with locations and lighting conditions specifically chosen to allude to various aspects of the original lunar mission, the celestial inspiration and the coastal environment.
