Upon the grassy terrain of Victoria, Australia sits the Woodend Residence, formidable in the way it covers the site, yet all the while respectful to the surrounding nature. The architects at Intermode Pty. Ltd took into consideration the ground that slopes away from the residence, so that the patio that wraps around the house connects this external space with the interior. Vertical panels of glazing add height to the residence and elevate the slab roof that sits upon inset columns. The black finish of the cabinets and furniture complement the concrete floor, the two elements forming a cool interior that offer respite from the warm Australian summers. Photography Derek Swalwell.
