“1918” by Winter Bicycles, Double-Bar Beauty

The renewed novelty of bicycles has made such a comeback over these past few years that it is easy to forget their historical role in earlier times. Military bicycles represent this forgotten class, but Winter Bicycles recognizes the vehicle’s importance during World War I. In honor of the service done, the company is premiering “1918,” a design that is based on the original Columbia Military Model and that uses a unique double-bar construction. “1918” also pays tribute through its color palette; the laurel green frame against the jet black seat, handle grips, and tires (which features a thin band of silver metal) evokes a militaristic impression as well as a solemnity appropriate for both the occasion and modern style.
