The Allermuir Crop Outdoor Furniture Collection

A collection of outdoor furniture inspired by the countryside.

Following the huge success of the Axyl collection, London-based design firm Layer and furniture brand Allermuir have partnered yet again for a new furniture line. Named Crop, this is the first outdoor furniture collection created by Layer. It’s also the first metal outdoor furniture range produced by Allermuir. As its name suggests, Crop draws inspiration from the countryside. More specifically, from the parallel lines of crops that cover the rolling hills of UK’s farmland. The line took 12 months to develop and comes in the wake of a challenging year.

Driven by social distancing rules and the focus on spending more time outdoors, there’s been a noticeable growth in the outdoor dining and hospitality industry. At the same time, lockdown measures have transformed residential gardens, patios, and even small balconies into welcome retreats. “For our first outdoor furniture collection we focused on capturing the spirit of the great outdoors and the language of the natural world to encourage al fresco dining, particularly in the current global climate,” says Benjamin Hubert, founder of Layer.

The Crop collection comprises two dining chairs with or without arms, an armchair, and two stools – with or without a backrest. Made from steel rods with robot-welded wire seats and backrests, the chairs create a strong graphic statement. The flowing parallel lines also help to create a play between light and shadow throughout the day. The curves of the seats and backrests soften the bold visual language of the linear pattern. Optional removable cushions enhance seating comfort further. Crafted for outdoor areas, the Crop collection suits any space, from residential to commercial and hospitality settings. Furthermore, the armchair and side chairs stack four high for more convenience. Available now, the Allermuir Crop range comes in six colors. Photographs© Allermuir. Images courtesy of Layer Design.
