Introducing the Sō Labs Watch Collection

Bringing extra fun and playfulness to the passage of time, one funky watch design at a time.

Chicago-based watch brand Sō Labs aims to “put the fun(k) back into telling time” with colorful, distinctive watches that are as joyful as they are unconventional. Using geometric shapes and striking color combination, the company creates works of art for your wrist, offering a fun alternative to more classic designs that by comparison look downright boring. Sō Labs has launched two collections so far, named Layer 1 and Layer 2.

All of the brand’s watches feature unique numbers. However, the Layer 1 series was also produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces, which unsurprisingly, are sold out. Slightly funkier with their 1980s style cues, the Layer 1 watches featured bright dials with dot patterns, 38mm acrylic cases, and Miyota quartz movements.

As for the Layer 2 collection, it features the signature Sō Labs dials with triangular and circular shapes in different colors. In another twist, this series repurposes the day/date complication as an aesthetic feature, adding another dynamic dimension to the already exciting designs. The day and the date correspond to different color wheels on the dial. Since each wheel has a gradient pattern, this results in an impressive number of 217 color combinations. While the collection tones down the vibrant colors of the previous series, boasting more muted hues and pastels, the dials are just as electrifying.

Made with 40mm cases, the Layer 2 watches also come with a domed sapphire crystal, transparent caseback, and a Swiss SW220-1 automatic movement. Additionally, these watches come with two straps: one suede and the other stainless steel. Custom membrane packaging completes the experience of purchasing a Sō Labs timepiece. You can discover the entire Layer 2 series on the brand’s website. There are 5 watch models to choose from, each as exciting and funky as the other. Photography © Sō Labs.
