The Blockhead Stem IB is a lightweight yet strong 6061 aluminum bike component designed by Che-Wei Wang and Taylor Levy of the Brooklyn-based studio CW&T. Held together with six stainless steel screws, the minimalist stem is one of the sturdiest such parts out there. The rectangular design is also quite sharp—literally and figuratively. This keen-edged bicycle element values geometric clarity over mass-market appeal. The design is nonetheless compatible with many customized bicycles, as it measures 40mm long with a 26mm clamp diameter. Plus, the stem is under a creative commons license, so those looking to make their own altered version can make revisions based on the specifications here on Levy’s site. That said, those interested in the original should support the designers and buy the Blockhead Stem online for $169.
