The Atlas of Brutalist Architecture

Edited and published by Phaidon, the Atlas of Brutalist Architecture is the most comprehensive account to date of Brutalist buildings from all over the world. Unprecedented in its scope, the volume documents the best examples of Brutalist architecture, with examples organized into nine main regions. The black-and-white photographs depict both existing and now demolished structures, as well as classic and contemporary buildings. While all of the architectural designs share the same style, they come from different eras and different places. Furthermore, they have been created by many architects, 798 to be more precise. Located in 102 countries, the architectural designs showcase the lasting and widespread influence of Brutalism. Across more than 500 pages, readers can find both iconic, well-known examples of Brutalist architecture, and lesser-known projects. Apart from commercial, cultural, religious, and recreational buildings, the images also feature residential and hospitality buildings.

Built from the 20th century onward, most of these buildings were designed by world-famous architects. Iconic names include Le Corbusier, Carlo Scarpa, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, and Oscar Niemeyer, as well as contemporary architects like Peter Zumthor, Alvaro Siza, David Chipperfield, Diller and Scofidio, Renzo Piano, Tadao Ando, and Zaha Hadid.
