Barcode Room by Studio_01

Just as a barcode is composed of a series of lines of varying weights, Barcode Room possesses a sectional quality of a series of panels – bar components – of varying functions such as sofa/bed, flip chair, or path. An award-winning concept from Japanese architecture firm Studio_01, the idea for the apartment also encompasses a furniture locking system that works through a synergy of bolts and hooks, allowing the structure of, say, a bed to be “flat-packed” into the bar component. Much like the rolling shelves of an old library, this anthology of programmatic elements begets flexibility of arrangement and mutability of plan to assign each individual his own bar code mode of living.
