Netherlands-based designer Véronique Baer’s “Bounce” is a series of quilted foam sculptures: until someone sits on them and transforms them into comfortable, soft chairs. Bounce is a family of three seats-dubbed Anton, Christine and Olaf that differ in shape and color. Anton is conical, and offers back support for the sitter; Christine converts into a standard chair; and Olaf is a petite stool. The symmetrical design of all of the Bounce pieces allows for endless combinations of seating from all angles, and the chairs bounce back to their sculptural form when the sitter gets up. The multifaceted, modern design gives equal weight to both form and function. It was displayed last week at Berlin’s annual DMY International Design Festival.
