This WWII-era bunker in Vuren, the Netherlands, was refurbished by the architecture firm B-ILD for the Dutch office Famous. The structure once functioned as a defense shelter along the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Today, the same steel and concrete space serves as a rentable holiday house and retreat nearby the urban centers of Rotterdam and Antwerp. Ideal a traveling group, the main room contains four bunk beds with slide-out storage and wooden fold-down furniture including a dining room table and chairs. Right outside the door, there is a furnished kitchenette, and, outside, back above ground, there is a new timber deck with a small picnic table and chairs. The deck and furnishings are practically the only changes to the original space; the original structure and hardware were left in place as this historical site is virtually indestructible.
