11,000 square feet is an immense gift of a site, but that amount of building can easily become too monolithic and overbearing. Studio Arthur Casas walks a tightrope in balancing the open and enclosed spaces in the design of Casa HS, a beautiful countryside estate located just an hour outside São Paulo, Brazil. The living areas are centralized in an L-shaped block, which is then extended through a series of outdoor interventions – a curved reflection pool and neighboring wooden deck, rectangular courtyards of grass, and a stone walkway leading to the house, to name a few. Sliding glass panels continue to break down barriers between the contained and the free, transforming the interior spaces from private to public. A set of stairs at the heart of the home leads upstairs, from which the breathtaking view is a slice of heaven on earth.
