Classy Williamsburg Apartment Renovation

The Williamsburg Loft is a large ground-floor apartment renovated for a couple by Brooklyn-based firm Ensemble Architecture. Both of the clients work from home, as one is a sculptor and the other a chef and food writer. Hence, the updated apartment makes room for their separate businesses and their married personal lives. The live-work space designates a studio for the artist, who requires an expansive room for her creations, and an open plan kitchen and office for the professional foodie, who needs to seamlessly work in the kitchen and on the computer. The dining room and lounge are part of the same main room as the kitchen and office, so there’s a sense of connectedness that makes the common area especially welcoming for the couple and their guests. Warm and natural, the interior features painted brick walls and wood ceilings and floors. This neutral backdrop makes the colorful, textured furnishings pop, drawing one’s attention slightly more toward the center of the room. When the work areas are not in use, they can be covered with sliding partitions so that the couple does not feel as though work is overly present in their lives and can enjoy the home without distraction.
