Compact Folding Chair by Glen Baghurst

This compact folding chair was envisioned by the Australian designer Glen Baghurst. Meant to be taken outside, the design is lightweight so that it can be carried and low to the ground so that it is inoffensive at sporting events, outdoor movies, and more. Made of steel and leather, the portable chair is more sturdy than the average lawn chair. Plus, the white powdercoated metal and the tan leather looks far better than plastic.

The design draws inspiration from the campaign furniture used by traveling military officials and families at the height of the British Empire, revisiting Western colonial iconography through a contemporary and perhaps revisionist lens. The folding chair debuted alongside an armchair and set of floor tiles at the 2015 Stockholm Furniture Fair in the Greenhouse exhibit.
