A Beautiful Coastal Style House: The Lookout at Broad Cove Marsh

Built on a long and narrow piece of land in a striking coastal area of Cape Breton Island, The Lookout at Broad Cove Marsh offers spectacular views towards Gulf of St. Lawrence. The owners, a couple from Toronto with three grown-up children, wanted a comfortable dwelling that not only has a strong link to nature, but also provides the perfect getaway space to bring the whole family together. Architect Omar Gandhi designed the structure as a natural extension to its surroundings. The contemporary coastal style house stretches horizontally over the plot of land, blending into the landscape, with the straight roof referencing the line of the horizon.

The holiday house features an exposed concrete wall facing the tree-lined road, while the southwest facade boasts glazed walls which connect the interior to the sweeping coastal views. White-washed spruce wood covers the volumes that house the bedrooms. The socializing spaces include an open-plan kitchen, dining room, and living room, all overlooking the sea and dramatic cliffs. The minimal and refined décor features wooden ceilings and furniture as well as modern concrete floors and black metal details which appear throughout the interior.
