Nestled on the slope of a mountain, this contemporary stone house blends into the landscape perfectly. Rocksplit House was designed by Barcelona-based Cometa Architects as a summer retreat for a family of four. Located on the Kea Island, in the Cyclades, Greece, the structure sits alongside traditional dwellings in a striking natural setting, overlooking a valley and the sea. The exterior boasts local stone and micro-cement surfaces, giving the house an eye-catching texture and plenty of character. The studio used “kotounto”, a traditional method of construction that creates a dry space between the rock and the building to protect it against the flow of water running down the mountain and to also connect the structure to the landscape.
Inside, this contemporary stone house boasts a distinctive décor that blends modern features and rustic designs. Artisanal wooden furniture sits alongside smooth concrete surfaces and creative lighting, with wood, brass, and stone details appearing throughout the interior. Eco-friendly and modern, Rocksplit House features solar panels that power up an underfloor heating system, with an underfloor cooling system also included.
