Fabien Cappello

Mexico City, Mexico

Fabien Cappello was born in France in 1984. He moved to Switzerland and then to the UK to study at the University of Art and Design (ECAL) in Lausanne and at the Royal College of Art in London. After completing his studies, he founded his own studio in 2010. In 2016, he relocated the design practice from London to Mexico City. While initially focused on product and furniture design, Fabien Cappello shifted his attention to more integral solutions for private and public spaces. He has also received many research grants and residencies that have involved surveying local craft techniques and exploring vernacular culture in countries as different as Italy, South Korea, and Portugal. Colorful, bold, and imaginative, the designer’s work creates a powerful link between people, culture, and identity. His designs and research work have been exhibited worldwide and have been included in the permanent collections of various museums and institutions, including SFMoMA and the British Council.
